GridPP Project Manager Role
The Project Manager:
1. Establishes and maintains the project management reporting tools.
2. Works with each area of the project to establish and record the high-level deliverables.
3. Gathers and collates information on the Applications through the Applications Coordinator.
4. Gathers and collates information on the Middleware/Security/Networking developments through the Middleware Coordinator.
5. Gathers and collates information on Production Grid through the Operations manager.
6. Gathers and collates information on the Tier-1 Centre through the Tier-1 Manager.
7. Gathers and collates information on Tier-2 centres through the Tier-2 Board Chair.
8. Gathers and collates information on dissemination activities through dissemination officer.
9. Gathers and collates information on the use of project resources (money and effort).
10. Reports problems with project deliverables/timelines to the PMB.
11. Reports to the Collaboration Meeting on the attributes of the Project.
12. Reports back to the Oversight Committee, summarising the overall management status using the project management tools.
The role of Project Manager includes the role of Resource Manager:
Role of the Resource Manager
• To collect information on the staff and equipment requirements identified by all elements of the GridPP project.
• To organise this information in a form that provides the project management board, and the agencies to which it reports, a clear view of the project requirements.
• To record and monitor the receipt and use of resources within the project and to present this information to the PMB on a regular basis.
• To assist with planning the optimal deployment of resources within the project and to help identify problems.
• To present to the PMB options for using resources as and when changes occur within the project or it’s funding.
• To help the project planning in terms of the definition of deliverables, the resources they required, the dependencies between them, and the commitments to external organisations.
• To document the use of resources, the deliverables received, and maintain a current view of the state of the project.
