GridPP activities
GridPP began in 2001 and has been working in three main areas:
- developing applications that will allow particle physicists to submit their data to the Grid for analysis
- writing middleware, which will manage the distribution of computing jobs around the grid and deal with issues such as security; and
- deploying computing infrastructure, at sites across the UK, to build a prototype Grid.
GridPP in the wider world
GridPP is developing a UK computing Grid for particle physics, but many of the people and institutions involved in GridPP are also working with other disciplines:- GridPP is working towards analying data from CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC), as part of the LHC Computing Grid (LCG) project.
- Within the UK, GridPP is working with the UK e-Science programme
- GridPP members play leading roles in the Open Grid forum
- Many of the people and institutions involved in GridPP are also working with other disciplines, sharing their expertise.
- GridPP has a range of projects with industry, sharing experiences and discussing current Grid development and deployment issues.
More information can be found on the collaboration's pages about Knowledge Exchange and Economic Impact
Other projects
GridPP is also playing a key role in a number of other projects, such as GridSite, which built this website, and the Globus mirror.
